Bragg Creek Bike Ride

I must remember that when you start out at midday you risk a windy ride and yesterdays ride was proof of that.

I set out for a 60km ride from the Westside Churhc parking lot, west to hwy 22 and then down the Bragg Creek and back.

The ride out was crazy windy. While Im not the strongest rider I like to try a keep my cadence up around 90rpm. Well, on this trip I had trouble to keep it at 70 even of the flat stretch. My speed was painfully slow as illustrated by the pictures below.

After the round-about at the 20km mark I stopped to have a drink and rest for a minute and the crosswind was so strong that it blew me down before I could fully clip-in. So down I went on the shoulder. Hurt my right calf a little but that was it. Its much better than falling while going 30kpm!!

Just to illustrate what Im talking about, Ive included some screenshots from Sportracks of the track, speed and elevation.

Going out is slightly uphill, into the wind with an average speed of around 23-25kph, I guess and the return is downhill with an average speed of 38-40kph. Now that part felt great even if the shifting tailwind did make things a bit wobbly at times.
